speakbetter records a call you choose to record, turns it into a transcript, and gives you coaching on how you spoke. This page explains exactly what that involves. The short version: we never store your audio, we only store the text and the coaching, and only you can read it.
What we collect
- Your email address, so you can sign in with a magic link and see your past sessions.
- Audio, only while you are recording. When you press record we capture your microphone and the audio of the tab you are on. Recording never starts on its own. It starts when you click record and stops when you click stop.
- Transcripts of that audio, kept separately for you and for the other participants.
- The coaching output: your scores, the written feedback, and a short auto-generated title and summary.
- Basic product analytics: privacy-friendly, no cookies, aggregate only. We can see that a page was viewed, not who viewed it.
What we do not do
- We do not store your audio. The recording is sent for transcription, held in memory only for as long as that takes, and then discarded. It is never written to our database or saved to disk.
- We do not sell your data, rent it, or share it with advertisers.
- We do not use your recordings or transcripts to train our own models.
- We do not record in the background, on a schedule, or without a visible recording indicator.
Who processes your data
We use a small number of established providers to run the product. Each one only receives what it needs to do its job.
- Deepgram receives the audio and returns the transcript.
- Anthropic receives the transcript text and returns the coaching. It does not receive your audio.
- Supabase stores your account and your saved sessions.
- Vercel hosts the site and provides the aggregate analytics.
- Resend sends your sign-in emails.
- Cloudflare and Upstash protect the public demo from bots and abuse. For that, and only that, the demo briefly uses your IP address to count how many times it has been run today.
Who can see your sessions
Only you. Every saved session is tied to your account and protected at the database level by row level security, so one account cannot read another account's data. We do not read your transcripts as a matter of course. We would only ever access them if you explicitly asked us to help with a specific problem.
Recording other people
When you record a call, the other participants are recorded too. Laws on this differ by country and by state, and many places require that everyone on the call consents. You are responsible for telling the people on your call that you are recording, and for following the law where you are. If you are not sure, ask them first.
The public demo
The demo on our home page works the same way: the clip is transcribed, coached, and then discarded. Demo clips are not saved, not linked to any account, and not reviewed by us.
How long we keep things
Audio: not kept at all. Transcripts and coaching: kept until you ask us to delete them, so that your past sessions are there when you come back to compare.
Deleting your data
Email hello@speakbetter.io from the address you signed up with, and tell us whether you want specific sessions removed or your whole account deleted. We will do it and confirm when it is done. Deleting your account removes your sessions with it.
Permissions the extension asks for
Chrome shows these at install time. Here is why each one exists:
- Microphone: to record your own voice, which is the thing being coached. Asked for once, the first time you record.
- Tab audio capture: to record the other side of the call, so the transcript can tell you apart from them.
- Storage: to keep you signed in between sessions.
- Notifications: to tell you when your coaching is ready.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or who we send it to, we will update the date at the top of this page.
